Galileo Players: The Evolution of Comedy

ABOUT US

In 1997, 30 years after science was invented by the Kennedy Administration, three handsome geeks from The Second City Conservatory Program founded Galileo, a sketch comedy troupe named after the sweet Indigo Girls song. They decided that sketch comedy in the world needed to be smarter, and science in the world needed to be funnier, so they pooled Ronnie's savings and spent it on lab coats and a three week rental of a black box theater.

Since the debut of their first original sketch show, 'Foresight is 20/20', Galileo has turned that investment into a virtual (meaning not yet real) comedic empire – cornering the market on comedy inspired by science and philosophy. The only limit to their ambition is time, space, and Newton's Third Law, which they have always found to be silly.

Until they are able to conquer the known universe, they are content to perform for the civilized world, bringing their quirky sensibility to colleges, festivals, and corporate events.

We hope history and Stephen Hawking approve.

"The Galileo Players portray a warped, satirical view of society and the direction towards which it is rapidly hurtling."
Chicago Tribune
"Although a background in quantum physics might help, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand the Galileo Players' quirky humor."
Chicago Reader
"Forgoing stale send-ups or current events, celebrities, and relationships, this smart production digs out the humor in science, philosophy, and other painfully academic topics, using a lively comination of comic scenes, improvisation and songs. Heady material, yes, but accessible as presented by this ensemble."
